MARCH 19, 2015 – Longmont Public Safety Chief Mike Butler plans to discuss the underlying issues behind two tragic events that occurred in Longmont this past week.

A news conference is scheduled for Friday, March 20, 12:15 pm in front of the Longmont Safety and Justice Center located at 225 Kimbark Street.

Chief Butler will address the state of the mental health issues that may have played a role in the two tragedies.

 “Our community’s senses were shocked as unimaginable and unforgettable similar but singular circumstances unfolded within hours of each other,” Butler says in a letter to the community. “People from all over our community are questioning why these tragedies occurred and are saddened and scared about what happened.”
