Longmont Safety & Justice Center Entrance to Relocate July 11

As part of a large-scale rehabilitation project, the front (north) entrance of the Longmont Safety & Justice Center is scheduled to be relocated on Thursday, July 11. The entrance will be moved to an existing entrance to the west. Posted signs will direct visitors to the interim entrance. While there will be no changes in lobby services, there will no longer be direct access to the second floor of the facility. Public Safety, Court and Probation lobby hours will be modified to 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday during the construction period.

The entrance move precedes a multi-stage demolition, beginning with the removal of the north-facing glass walls and first floor slab, followed by the removal of the clock, the public art mosaic and ultimately the demolition of the precast rotunda. This work is anticipated to be completed in 2025.

In 2018, City of Longmont voters approved funding for the rehabilitation and improvements to City buildings including the Safety & Justice Center at 3rd Avenue and Kimbark Street. Structural repairs are being made to slow further deterioration while extending the life expectancy of the building. The building’s footprint will also be expanded and additional safety measures will be provided.

The updated design will include prominent locations for new commissioned public art. Longmont’s Art in Public Places will conduct a national call for artists upon completion of the project.
