Longmont to Conduct a Prescribed Burn Within City Limits
Longmont to Conduct a Prescribed Burn Within City Limits
The City of Longmont Ecosystem Management team, in coordination with Longmont Public Safety and Ute Creek Golf Course, will be conducting a prescribed burn within the City limits between October 21 through November 1, weather dependent. The burn will occur in the Ute Creek Golf Course water delivery system area from Pace St. to Highway 66 in northeast Longmont. A map of this area appears below. These activities will be carefully monitored by the Longmont Fire Department and the dates are broadly set to allow personnel the opportunity to wait for ideal weather conditions.
While access to the golf course will still be allowed during this time, the public will not be allowed in the burn area for any reason. A section of the Pace Street sidewalk that crosses Spring Gulch will be briefly closed, likely for 5 to 15 minutes.
While residents may see fire or smoke in the area, they are asked to not call 911 as prescribed burns are not an emergency. If you have underlying medical conditions and smell smoke, we recommend closing your windows and remaining inside during the burn.
Prescribed burns help improve movement of water, reduce mosquito breeding grounds and promote better plant health and diversity. Burns also reduce the risk of dangerous wildfires by removing overgrown vegetation, dead leaves, tree limbs and other flammable debris.
If you have any questions about this prescribed burn, call Longmont Ecosystem Manager Jim Krick at 303-651-8451 or the Longmont Customer Service Center at 303-651-8416.
