Longmont to Conduct Prescribed Burn at Boulder Creek Estates Open Space Oct. 18

(Oct. 17, 2022) – The City of Longmont Ecosystem Management team, in coordination with Longmont Public Safety and Public Works Operations, will be conducting a prescribed burn at Boulder Creek Estates Open Space on Oct. 18, weather dependent. This prescribed burn will be carefully monitored by the Longmont Fire Department.

The burn area is Boulder Creek Estates Open Space, south of Highway 119, between County Road 5 and St. Vrain Creek in Eastern Longmont.

All access to the area, including trails, will be closed. Residents may see fire or smoke in the area, but please do not call 911 as prescribed burns are not an emergency. Please do not enter the area during the burn for any reason. If you have underlying medical conditions and smell smoke, we recommend closing your windows and remaining inside during the burn.

Prescribed burns help improve movement of water, reducing mosquito breeding grounds and promote better plant health and diversity. They also reduce the risk of dangerous wildfires by clearing overgrown vegetation and safely ridding the area of dead leaves, tree limbs and other debris.

If you have any questions about these prescribed burns, call Longmont Ecosystem Management Administrator, Jim Krick at 303-651-8451 or the Longmont Customer Service Center at 303-651-8416.
