Longmont to Conduct Two Prescribed Burns Within City Limits
Longmont to Conduct Two Prescribed Burns Within City Limits
(March 10, 2023) – The City of Longmont Ecosystem Management team, in coordination with Longmont Public Safety and Public Works Operations, will be conducting two prescribed burns within the City limits between March 15 and 30, weather dependent. All of these prescribed burns will be carefully monitored by the Longmont Fire Department and the dates are broadly set to allow personnel the opportunity to wait for ideal weather conditions.
The two burn areas are below, and maps of each area can be found at the bottom of this release:
- Ute Creek Golf Course water delivery system (Northeast Longmont)
- Spring Gulch #2, from Pace Street north to Highway 66 (Northeast Longmont)
All access to the areas, including trails, will be closed during the day of the burns. Residents may see fire or smoke in the area, but please do not call 911 as prescribed burns are not an emergency. Please do not enter the areas during the burns for any reason. If you have underlying medical conditions and smell smoke, we recommend closing your windows and remaining inside during the burn.
Prescribed burns help improve movement of water, reducing mosquito breeding grounds and promote better plant health and diversity. These burns also reduce the risk of dangerous wildfires by clearing overgrown vegetation and safely ridding the area of dead leaves, tree limbs and other debris.
If you have any questions about these prescribed burns, call Longmont Ecosystem Management Administrator Jim Krick at 303-651-8451 or the Longmont Customer Service Center at 303-651-8416.
