LONGMONT, CO –  Longmont Power & Communications customers can now save energy and earn a  $35 rebate by recycling their old refrigerator or freezer through LPC’s Efficiency Works™ program.

Customers can schedule an appointment to have their appliance picked up by calling 1-888-729-6154, or by going online to https://efficiencyworks.org/ and selecting Longmont under “Refrigerator and Freezer Recycling.” The pick-up is free.

 “Large appliances like a refrigerator can be hard to get rid of for most people, so they usually take up space and soak up energy,” said LPC spokesman Scott Rochat. “This makes it easy to get an old unit out the door, and it puts some money in your pocket at the same time.”

To qualify, the fridge or freezer must be a residential appliance that’s clean, in working condition, and between 10 and 30 cubic feet. No more than two appliances per year per customer may be recycled.

“Customers can schedule a free pick-up, receive a $35 rebate, and have peace of mind that they’ve sustainably disposed of their appliance,” said Adam Perry, the customer services supervisor-energy efficiency at Platte River Power Authority (PRPA), which manages Efficiency Works for Longmont, Loveland, Fort Collins, and Estes Park. “That’s about as easy and rewarding as it will ever get to be more energy efficient.”

The four cities are the co-owners of PRPA.  Efficiency Works is a collaborative effort between PRPA and those four cities to help residents and businesses save energy, water, and money. 

LPC is partnering with ARCA, Inc. to provide the recycling program. The effort also reinforces Longmont’s Sustainability Plan, which encourages a wide variety of sustainable actions, including increased energy efficiency,  in order to enhance the city’s long-term future.
