LPC pushes “Play” on Public Power Week Video contest
Want to win a $100 downtown gift card? All that’s needed is a short smartphone video and a love of Longmont’s community-owned power to have a chance at that prize in this year’s Public Power Week contest from Longmont Power & Communications.
The contest asks participants to create a smartphone video of 30 seconds or less that includes the phrase “Longmont’s Power Lights Me Up,” showing how they enjoy using the community’s electric service. For example, a video could include the quiet joys of reading by a bedside lamp, the excitement of a high school football game’s “Friday night lights,” or the last moments of getting ready to travel on an e-bike.
“Public Power Week has always been a chance for all of us to celebrate Longmont’s community-owned electricity and have a little fun doing it,” said LPC’s Interim Executive Director Darrell Hahn. “Every day, our residents and businesses use Longmont’s power to make life better in so many ways, and this is a chance to share the ones that matter to you. It doesn’t have to be Hollywood – just enjoy yourself and find something that’ll bring a smile to you and your neighbors.”
There is no cost to enter. Entries must come from LPC customers and be received by Oct. 8, 2022; the winner will be randomly drawn.
Held in the first full week of October, Public Power Week (Oct. 2-8) celebrates the more than 2,000 towns and cities across the United States that own and operate their own electric utilities. That includes Longmont, which has provided its own electricity since 1912 and is working toward a goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030. LPC has been recognized as a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) by the American Public Power Association since 2006 and was the first utility in Colorado to receive that recognition.
Participants in the contest must be part of a home, business, or school that gets their electricity from LPC. There is no age restriction or entry fee. Videos may be emailed to LPC@longmontcolorado.gov or sent by private message to LPC’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/longmontpowercommunications.
Anyone with questions about the contest may call 303-651-8793 or go online to https://www.longmontcolorado.gov/publicpowerweek for more information. All entries may be used in future publicity.
