LPC remains a gem of a utility with ‘Diamond’ RP3 rating
Longmont Power & Communications has received its sixth straight Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) award from the American Public Power Association. LPC received a Diamond RP3 rating, the highest that APPA can give.
LPC has received either a Diamond or a Platinum rating (the second-highest) since 2006, and was the first utility in Colorado to receive RP3 recognition. LPC’s Diamond designation was announced today.
“As a community-owned utility, we work hard every day to provide safe and reliable power to Longmont’s homes and businesses,” LPC general manager Tom Roiniotis said. “We’re pleased to have those efforts recognized again by the APPA.”
To be recognized, a public utility must excel in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvements. Of the more than 2,000 APPA member utilities nationwide, only 73 hold the RP3 designation with a Diamond rating, including LPC.
For most Longmont residents, reliable power is routine. The average resident can go for more than two years without seeing a power outage, and many can boast of never having had one. Roughly $3.5 million was spent in 2016 to improve the electric infrastructure.
“Utilities that have earned an RP3 designation demonstrate public power’s emphasis on achieving leading practices and providing a high level of service to communities,” said David Lynch, chair of the APPA’s RP3 review panel. “We are proud to welcome all utilities earning this recognition for the first time and to those renewing their designations.”
The American Public Power Association represents not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 49 million people in towns and cities nationwide. The APPA advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations.
