LPC to test fire retardant Nov. 13 to enhance wildfire safety for poles

Neighbors may see smoke from Service Center during tests

LONGMONT, CO – Longmont Power & Communications will be testing a new product on Wednesday morning that’s designed to give power poles better protection from wildfires. During the testing, LPC said, people near the Service Center (1100 S. Sherman St.) may see smoke and should not be alarmed.

Weather permitting, the tests will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday outside the Service Center, near the South Bowen Street side of the property. During the tests, LPC will temporarily place two shortened power poles – about 20 feet high – on the lot and treat one of the poles with the new fire retardant to demonstrate its effectiveness. A fire crew from Longmont Public Safety will be on hand to assist with and monitor the tests.

Anyone with questions about the testing may call LPC at 303-651-8386 for more information.
