Mosquito spraying will continue in select neighborhoods this week.

The City of Longmont contracts with Vector Disease Control International (VDCI) to spray local neighborhoods in Longmont to control the spread of West Nile Virus. Spraying is triggered – per predetermined spray area – when traps in that area exceed 150 mosquitoes per trap AND when West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes are discovered in Larimer, Boulder or Weld Counties. The following standard spray areas have met the threshold and will be sprayed beginning at sunset this Thursday, August 15, 2024 and continuing through the evening or early morning, weather permitting.

• Jim Hamm Nature Area (LM-03)
• Sandstone Ranch (LM-22)
• Left Hand Creek @ Creekside (LM-31)
• Renaissance (LM-34)
• Izaak Walton Nature Area (LM-42)

Boundaries of the predetermined spray areas can be seen on a map provided by the City and VDCI on the West Nile Virus webpage. When the triggering events occur, notice is provided on this webpage on Tuesdays that spraying will occur later that week – typically on Thursday evenings – giving residents 48 hours’ notice of any spraying.

VDCI maintains a database of Longmont residents who have made notification or shutoff requests for their property if spraying is scheduled. Please contact VDCI to request notification, shutoff, or both by filling out the form at the bottom of the page at vdci.net/colorado or by calling 877-428-5908.

Boulder County Public Health and Longmont officials urge residents to take necessary precautions this holiday weekend to protect themselves. Keep safe, remember the 4Ds:

1. Use DEET-enhanced insect repellent or alternative.
2. DRESS in light colors and loose-fitting long sleeves and pants.
3. Avoid the outdoors from DUSK until DAWN.
4. DRAIN standing water outside your home.
