Museum opens “Run the Presses” exhibit

LONGMONT, Colo. – The Longmont Museum announces the first exhibition drawn from the Longmont Times-Call collection, transferred to the Museum in 2014. Run the Presses! Headlines from the Longmont Times-Call Collection, opens February 27 and runs through April 19 in the Longmont Museum’s Portal Gallery.

The exhibition features a series front pages from the last 112 years of the Longmont Times-Call and its predecessors, highlighting key moments in Longmont and the nation’s history. The papers celebrate Longmont native son Vance Brand’s successful Apollo-Soyuz space mission, mourn the assassination of President Kennedy, and record the struggle Longmont and all of Colorado had with the Ku Klux Klan in 1925.

Run the Presses is the first in what the Museum hopes will be an ongoing series of programs and exhibitions that utilize the resources of the Longmont Times-Call collection. The collection, covering more than a century of Longmont journalistic history, is now accessible by appointment through the Longmont Museum’s archives.
