New Municipal Court Judge Appointed by Longmont City Council

Robert J. Frick, Esq., has been appointed the new City of Longmont Municipal Court judge by the Longmont City Council.

Frick currently has a private law practice, Law Office of Robert J. Frick, and recently joined with the law firm of James & Associates, LLC.  He also serves as assistant, deputy or special judge for the Colorado cities of Lakewood, Edgewater, Greeley, Frederick, Wheat Ridge, and Elizabeth. He is expected to start the Longmont position on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

“I look forward to serving our community as Longmont’s next municipal judge,” Frick said. “I was thoroughly impressed with the care and professionalism of the individuals involved with the selection process and am honored to have been selected. The City Council also impressed me with their candor and dedication to the community.”

Frick has more than 17 years of litigation experience, first as the Deputy District Attorney for the Weld County District Attorney’s Office – 19th Judicial District, later as a municipal judge for various Colorado cities, and recently in private practice as both an attorney and mediator. This includes more than 100 jury trials, thousands of motion hearings, and tens of thousands of cases in federal, state, and municipal courts.

Frick holds a Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa. He is the immediate past president of the Colorado Municipal Judges Association.

“We’re fortunate to have found a candidate with such a strong litigation and municipal court background,” said Longmont Mayor Dennis Coombs. “Robert will play a vital role in the continued development of the Longmont Municipal Court.”

Frick replaces Diana VanDeHey who has served as Longmont’s municipal judge since 1986. VanDeHey announced her retirement earlier this year.

The Longmont Municipal judge is appointed by City Council but must be retained by voters every two years. Frick will be up for the retention vote in November 2017.

A swearing-in ceremony is planned for June 14 at 7 pm during the Longmont City Council Meeting.
