NextLight accelerates entry-level home speed to 100 Mbps

NextLight has quadrupled the speed of its entry-level home service, offering 100 megabit per second uploads and downloads for the same $39.95/month price as its former 25 megabit connection.

This upgraded speed affects both new and existing 25 megabit residential customers, including students who receive free internet service through Sharing the NextLight and customers receiving one of NextLight’s income-qualified offers.

“We know our community relies on high-speed internet connections to work, learn and relax, especially in these times,” NextLight Executive Director Valerie Dodd said. “It’s important to us that even our basic level of service exceeds expectations, ensuring Longmont homes have the speed they need at a price they can afford. This change puts more power than ever into the hands of our customers to meet all their needs.”

NextLight will also continue to provide its gigabit (1,000 megabit) residential connection – its most popular offering – at no change in current prices. Both services are well in excess of the federal broadband standard, which defines “broadband” as having at least a 25 megabit download and 3 megabit upload speed.

The community-owned internet service provider has repeatedly been recognized among the fastest ISPs in the nation, and in 2019 was also noted as offering some of the most affordable connections in the country for a provider of its size.

This year, NextLight began to offer discounted service for income-qualifying households and for households impacted by the effects of COVID-19. NextLight has also expanded the Sharing the NextLight program, offering it to parents and caregivers of pre-K through 12th-grade students, as well as to Pell Grant-eligible college students. Details and opportunities to apply for or support the program can be found at LongmontColorado.gov/SharingTheNextLight.
