NextLight releases broadband “nutrition label”
Longmont-owned internet service provides at-a-glance comparison info
LONGMONT, CO – Longmont’s NextLight internet service has posted its new broadband “nutrition label,” giving a comparison shopper easy access to the community-owned network’s prices and speeds … with no real surprises.
“From the start, Longmont residents have known they can trust NextLight to be upfront about what they’ll pay and what they’ll get, and this is just a reinforcement of that promise,” said Valerie Dodd, NextLight’s executive director. “No hidden fees. No ‘gotchas.’ Just the high-speed, high-quality internet that our community expects and deserves.”
The labels stem from a new federal rule requiring all internet providers to display an informational label – modeled after the nutrition label seen on food products – that outlines the provider’s basic offerings, such as the price, any added fees, typical speeds and any contract requirements. Internet providers with more than 100,000 customers had to start using the labels in April 2024 while smaller providers had until October.
NextLight’s new labels can be seen on its website at www.mynextlight.com/broadband-labels/.
Even before the labels came out, Dodd noted, NextLight customers could easily check out the provider’s prices and offerings online and still can.
“There aren’t any contracts or data caps to confuse things and sneak in extra costs,” Dodd said. “With NextLight, what you see is what you get … and we work hard to make sure that what you get is awesome.”
