NextLight shares big-name stage in “Best Tech Brands” ranking

Longmont’s high-speed fiber optic service NextLight has been called out for attention in a national “Best Tech Brands for 2024” list that included the likes of Samsung, Sony and Microsoft.

Normally, the annual PC Magazine list wouldn’t include an internet service provider at all since the magazine doesn’t typically do product reviews of ISPs, which is how the Best Tech Brands are determined. But this time, the publication said the community support behind NextLight was too strong to ignore, earning the community-owned ISP an Honorable Mention in the rankings.

“The people of Longmont went above and beyond when scoring their local ISP to make sure we knew exactly how they felt about it, for both work and home use,” the magazine noted, referring to its 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards that ranked NextLight as the top residential and business internet provider with record scores. “The two Net Promoter scores NextLight earns average 99.0. It may not have been enough to make our top 25 by this year’s criteria, but nevertheless, a customer satisfaction level this high is worth mention.”

PC Mag compiles the Best Brands by averaging scores from its product reviews – which covered 679 brands this year – and then ranking them into a top 25 list. A brand must earn at least three product reviews to make the list. This year’s No. 1-ranked tech brand was the anti-malware service Bitdefender.

“The continued recognition of NextLight’s internet service is a testament to the service our team members provide, the care of and investment in our network, and the overwhelming support of our valued residents,” said Valerie Dodd, NextLight’s executive director. “This brings home what our customers have known for years: that when they connect to NextLight, they get a local provider with national quality.”

Since its beginnings in 2014, NextLight’s success has inspired other communities to explore their own broadband options, culminating in 2023 when Colorado repealed its restrictions on municipally-owned broadband. The state currently has a goal of connecting 99% of Colorado households to high-speed broadband by 2027.

“Across the country, people understand how vital a fast and reliable internet connection is for their home or business,” Dodd said. “We’re proud to provide that high-quality NextLight service to Longmont and we’re thrilled to see the enthusiasm our community has for it.”
