Outdoor Emergency Warning System April 2016
Outdoor Emergency Warning System April 2016
In April of 2016, the City of Longmont will be testing the Outdoor Emergency Warning System (OEWS) every Monday at 10am for the entire month (April 4, 11, 18, 25). This siren will last between 2-4 minutes. Should the weather be inclement (rainy, stormy, etc.) on one of those dates, the test will not be held.
In the event the sirens were a true emergency, residents in Longmont should seek immediate cover and tune into a Denver Metro area radio/television station or some other device that provides local weather information. Please note that you can listen to almost any radio station via internet access. You can also purchase a weather radio specifically designed to activate when an alert is available. This weather radio provides updates by the National Weather Service. They are available at most hardware stores. You should remain in your sheltered location UNTIL the medium you are listening to indicate the threat has passed. The city does not provide an all clear notification. There is no specific station or location to tune to.
In May, June, July, and August we will return to our monthly testing as the first Monday of the month at 10am.
