Outdoor Warning System Malfunctioned Overnight
Outdoor Warning System Malfunctioned Overnight
At approximately 4 am on Thursday morning (10/13/16), the Longmont Outdoor Emergency Warning System (OEWS) malfunctioned setting off a tone that is not normal for the system. It lasted for approximately 1 hour.
This system is designed to be remotely turned off. However, due to the malfunction the system required manual shut off at all 17 posts located throughout the city. Longmont Power and Communications assisted Public Safety with each location shut off.
It is unknown what activated the system. The OEWS has been shut down until further notice and the manufacturer has been contacted to troubleshoot the system.
We apologize for any inconvenience (and sleep lost) due to this equipment failure. For additional information, please email oem@longmontcolorado.gov.
