Patrons Asked to Help Keep Dog Beach Open | Se pide a los clientes que ayuden a mantener abierta la playa para perros

Accumulating dog poop has become a significant problem at the Union Reservoir Dog Beach. So much so, that the dog beach will close beginning September 16, 2024, to allow for poop removal, unless dog beach users can help in the interim.

Parks officials are asking users of the dog beach to assist with the clean-up effort. In addition to picking up their dog’s poop, they’re asking visitors to also pick up after other dogs, past and present. If this effort is successful, the closure can be avoided.

“We are asking users of the dog beach to help us keep it open,” said David Bell, director of Parks and Natural Resources. “In addition to paying attention to – and picking up after – your dog, we’re asking that you also pick up any additional poop you encounter, and to dispose of all waste in designated trash cans or dumpsters.”

If the dog beach is closed on September 16, the length of the closure is undetermined, as it will be as long as it takes to properly clean the beach. Should that occur, this news release will be updated with a reopen date as the work reaches completion.
