Longmont Police will be hosting their Peace Officer Memorial on Wednesday, May 18, from 1pm-2pm on the front steps of the Longmont Safety and Justice Building, 225 Kimbark Street. The public is invited to attend. The department will pay tribute to those police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2015.

• 2015 average age of a Colorado officer that lost their life serving was 41
• 2015 average time these Colorado officers served was 12 years, 2 months
• 286 Colorado Officers have lost their lives since 1791
• The total number of officer deaths in 2015 the United States was 123.
• 27 K9’s were killed nationally in 2015
• 20,789 names are engraved on the wall of the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated a Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
