Powering Up
Good things tend to catch on and grow.
When I was little, Archie Comics made a big deal of the super-wealthy Veronica Lodge getting Riverdale’s first VCR and with it, the freedom to watch what she wanted when she wanted. Now most of the country has that freedom without ever having to touch a tape.
Ten years ago, municipal broadband in Longmont was just a ballot issue. Now it’s one of the city’s proudest triumphs and part of a national trend.
I got reminded of that again with a recent news item. Most of you can probably remember how 10 years ago, electric vehicle chargers were almost as rare as Colorado Rockies playoff appearances. How common are they now? Our next door neighbors in Berthoud – population 7,200 – will be adding their first chargers this summer.
That’s the latest of about 26,000 EV chargers to be found nationwide, with many more coming. And the more chargers there are, the more relaxed a trip can be, without questions of “Where can I find a plug?”
Here in Longmont, of course, that’s an easy answer. In addition to any privately-owned stations, the city has five publicly-owned charging stations around town, including the most recent addition at the Lognmont Library. So if your wheels need someone to socket it to them, check out our list of locations, pull on up and plug on in.
It’s easy. And getting easier. After all, as Veronica might say, one simply must keep current.
Er, so to speak.
