Quiet Transformation
Quiet Transformation
The late Christopher Reeve was a Man of Steel like no other. And his most unforgettable scene didn’t involve feats of strength or blazing heat vision. Instead, alone in the apartment of Lois Lane, he subtly shifted from Clark Kent to Superman and back again with nothing more than a slight adjustment of voice and bearing, no red-and-blue costume needed.
It’s a reminder that the really super stuff can happen quietly. No flash. No John Williams anthems. Just solid, silent dependability.
This week, we’re making one of those quiet moves. And we think it’s pretty super.
This week, Longmont Power & Communications is getting ready to add a new transformer to one of our electric substations. No, not the kind that folds out from a sports car into a fighting robot. The kind that helps us deliver power at just the right level of intensity so that you have it when you need it, how you need it.
So what’s the big deal? Well, even one of the most reliable utilities in the country can still have its system impacted by severe weather, or an off-course car, or those gosh-darn squirrels. Backup transformers at our substations give us options, so that when there’s an outage, we can re-route our power and get you back on quickly and safely. (And remember, if you do need that help, give us a call at 303-651-8386 … no standup phone booth required.)
When we energize that transformer, it’s pretty low-key. Industrial Light and Magic would be seriously disappointed at the lack of special effects. But with it in place, our crews can keep on helping you faster than a speeding bullet.
We’re excited. After all, that kind of reliability doesn’t happen by accident.
In fact, that’s how we daily plan it.
