At about 6:45 pm on September 11, Longmont police officers were investigating an adult male who was driving an ATV recklessly in the area of South Hover Street and Nelson Road. While driving, the male was pointing a rifle at motorists. No shots were fired. His reckless driving caused at least one accident. He drove recklessly through the King Soopers and Target parking lots, then abandoned the ATV. The male attempted to steal a UPS delivery truck by pointing a rifle at the UPS driver. The truck was never stolen. The male unlawfully entered a residence on Schlagel Street where he discarded clothes he was wearing and donned clothes he located in the house.

An alert, sometimes referred to as a Reverse 9-1-1, call was sent out to residents in the affected area. This call was sent to alert those that this male may be in their area and may be armed, committing crimes, and eluding the police.

During the search members from the Boulder County Sheriff Department and Colorado State Patrol moved into the area to aid the search. The search was cancelled at about 9:30 pm.

Just prior to midnight on September 11, Longmont officers were notified that a male was illegally inside a bank in the 900 block of South Hover Street. Augustus Cropp was located inside the bank by a member of the cleaning crew. Officers responded to the area and arrested Cropp, a 21-year-old transient male. Officers determined that Cropp was the man associated with the other incidents near South Hover Street and Nelson Road.

Cropp was booked into the Boulder County Jail and was charged with several crimes to include menacing, attempted motor vehicle theft, second degree burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and arrest warrants from two jurisdictions.

It was later learned Cropp was carrying and threatening people with a BB rifle, not a true firearm.

The investigation continues into this case. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
