Rhythm on the River, July 4th Concert Canceled

Last week, Governor Polis announced the extension and amendments of the Colorado Safer-at-Home Order, including the continuing prohibition of gatherings over ten people through July 1, 2020. Based on that restriction and the uncertainty surrounding  possible extensions or amendments of public health orders during the month of July, the City has made the difficult decision to cancel the July 4th Concert in Thompson Park and the Rhythm on the River Music Festival at Roger’s Grove.

“We know the community looks forward to the joy these events bring each year and we’re all disappointed. We also know that our community is resilient and will take advantage of all the safe, distanced outdoor activities we can enjoy this summer in our beautiful city,” says Karen Roney, director of Community Services at the City of Longmont.

The Skyline Kiwanis’ 4th of July fireworks display is currently under review, with a modified proposal to ensure social distancing. More information on the plan and whether it is approved will be shared as soon as it is available.

In lieu of summer concert gatherings, the Longmont Museum is hosting a Summer Concert Series virtually on Facebook. Follow the Longmont Museum on Facebook to tune into the live broadcast of free concerts every Thursday night from June 18 to July 30 at 7:30pm and catch the musical stylings of Hazel Miller, Clandestine Amigo, and other favorites.

In addition to the Longmont Museum’s summer concert series, the City has a wide range of virtual programming available this summer, including virtual summer camps, fitness programming, history lectures and so much more. To stay up to date on Library, Museum, Recreation, Youth Center, and Senior Services programs and virtual events, visit www.longmontcolorado.gov, or, take advantage of the parks, trails, and outdoor recreation opportunities that are open to those following the best practices for COVID-19: wear a face covering, maintain 6’ of distance from others, wash your hands frequently, and keep gatherings to fewer than ten people.
