Roosevelt Park Improvements to Begin February 17
Roosevelt Park Improvements to Begin February 17
Work on several improvements to Roosevelt Park (700 Longs Peak Avenue) begins on February 17, 2026.
The project includes both a new playground and a new adult fitness course. The existing play area was installed over 30 years ago and will undergo a full replacement to alleviate safety concerns, expand play options and better utilize the space. The adult fitness course will be located near the stone shelter in the southwest corner of the park, with convenient access to the Longmont Senior Center. It will offer 5-7 pieces of equipment to target varying abilities and fitness objectives.
A small landscape project to improve an art piece located near the Senior Center entry will also be included in this project. While working closely with the AIPP administrator and parks operations department, the turf around the sculpture will be converted to a low maintenance landscape bed.
Public feedback on the project was gathered in two phases. A survey was conducted in June of 2024 to understand community needs for the adult fitness course. A second survey was conducted in the fall of 2024 to capture community feedback on playground design and features.
“Public response to both surveys was very enthusiastic,” said Trish Kurnik, City of Longmont Senior Project Manager. “Community members had great suggestions on the types of features wanted for both children and seniors, and we’re excited to share the results this summer.”
Construction work on the Roosevelt Park improvements will begin on February 17. The work is anticipated to take approximately 3 months, depending on the weather. Other than the playground being offline, and some paths rerouted, the overall park will not be significantly impacted due to the construction.
