Second Phase of Construction to Start on Boston Avenue Bridge Over St. Vrain Creek
Second Phase of Construction to Start on Boston Avenue Bridge Over St. Vrain Creek
April 10, 2024 – The City of Longmont and contractor Zak Dirt, Inc. have completed the first phase of construction on the south half of the Boston Avenue Bridge over St. Vrain Creek. The next phase will reconstruct the north half of the bridge.
To prepare, Boston Avenue from South Sunset Street to Bowen Street will be closed overnight starting at 6 pm on Friday, April 12 until 6:30 am on Saturday, April 13. South Francis Street from River Road to Boston Avenue will be closed from Friday, April 12 through Tuesday, April 16. Travelers will need to use alternate routes on Price Road and Nelson Road to access South Francis Street from the south.
On Tuesday, April 16, the current two-way traffic pattern on the north side of the bridge will be shifted to the reconstructed south side of the bridge. Vehicles will be allowed to travel in both east and westbound directions on Boston Avenue. Flaggers will direct traffic while the lanes are being shifted and delays should be expected. The center turn lane from Boston Avenue onto South Francis Street will remain closed. Bicyclists are required to merge and share the lanes across the bridge. Pedestrians are prohibited from crossing the bridge. This temporary traffic pattern is expected to be in place until September.
While two-way traffic will be maintained at most times during construction, temporary lane closures may sometimes reduce traffic to one lane to allow trucks and other equipment to enter and exit the construction area. These closures will most often occur between 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. However, delays should be expected at all times.
The speed limit across the Boston Avenue bridge has been reduced to 25 mph. The public is encouraged to use alternate routes to South Sunset Street and Nelson Road. Current project information and traffic impacts can be found on the Boston Avenue Bridge Replacement webpage.
