Stolen Toyota Highlander Ends in Officer Discharging Firearm

On June 15, 2023, at 6:59 am, a 2023 white Toyota Highlander was stolen from Curtis Place with a 9mm handgun in the center console. This Toyota Highlander was equipped with a GPS tracking system, allowing Toyota to provide the vehicle’s location throughout the day. The Highlander was tracked to multiple locations outside of Longmont.

On June 15, 2023, at 8:49 pm, Toyota tracked the vehicle back to the Longmont city limits. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to spike-strip the tires. Officers were successful, and the vehicle tires deflated; the vehicle crashed on north Francis, and the suspect fled on foot.

At 10:12 pm, the Longmont Emergency Communications Center (LECC) received a call from a resident stating the suspect was in his garage at 2184 Stuart Street. While on the scene, officers heard what sounded like a dispute between the homeowner and the suspect. Officers made entry to the property. A Longmont Officer discharged his weapon. No injuries were reported.

Officers later located the suspect nearby, and he was taken into custody without incident. The Boulder County Investigation Team has been brought in to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Per department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

No further information is available at this time.
