Longmont Runs for Recreation Youth Scholarships!

The City of Longmont Recreation department hosts the 43rd Annual Turkey Trot this year on Veteran’s Day, Saturday, November 11th, 2017. Going strong after 4 decades of fun, this year’s races will feature two courses: a 10K (with a wheelchair division) or a 2 mile option. Entry fees range from $18 to $30, and early-bird participants who register by 5pm on Sunday, October 22nd will get their racing bib customized with their name.

When asked what makes this race so enduring, Recreation Program Supervisor Sara Taylor was quick to point to the exceptional community spirit of this event, and the popularity of costumed races to get the whole family involved. “You know, with a longer course that is wheelchair inclusive, and a shorter course that is perfect for parents to run with their children, this event truly is a healthy outdoor activity with space for everyone.” Indeed, the course itself is flat and fast—something that is welcoming for beginners but still offers elite runners an opportunity to challenge their personal best.

This year, the Longmont Turkey Trot will be honoring our veterans, so deck out your wheelchair and dress in your finest American turkey spirit costume and get ready to dash, trot, and gobble your way to the finish line! Proceeds from the race go toward the Recreation Youth Scholarship program, offering Longmont residents 17 and under $100/year to use towards recreation activities taught by recreation staff, including swim lessons, ice skating, and more! To register for this year’s race, visit www.longmontcolorado.gov/rec, www.active.com, or pick up your packet from a Longmont Recreation facility. For questions, call us at 303-774-4800.
