The Healing Power of Pets: Companions for Mental Health and Wellness
The Healing Power of Pets: Companions for Mental Health and Wellness
Do you love animals? Did you know that our connection with animals can play an important role in our overall well-being? Join us for a special event on Monday, May 7 at 6:30pm at the Longmont Museum that highlights the importance of the human-animal connection.
The Healing Power of Pets: Companions for Mental Health and Wellness will feature guest speaker Jeff Fink, founder of Go Fetch Wellness. Jeff will share his journey with severe depression and anxiety and his whole-person approach to wellness. Accompanied by his mental health service dog, Earl, Jeff will discuss the ways in which the human-animal bond may positively impact recovery and mental health.
Before the presentation, there will be a screening of the short documentary Beyond Silence. The film, executive produced by Demi Lovato, tells the story of Jeff and two other people who share one common experience—their lives have been transformed by speaking up for mental health.
After the event, guests will have a chance to meet Jeff and Earl along with local therapy dog teams from Boulder County Therapy Dogs. Refreshments will be served and representatives from local organizations including Mental Health Partners, Supporting Action for Mental Health, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the Longmont Humane Society will be there with information and resources.
This event is perfect for teens, adults, animal lovers, and anyone who wants to increase their awareness of mental health issues. Spanish interpretation will be provided.
This is a FREE event. Registration is strongly encouraged. We want to save you a seat! RSVP by emailing Julie Phillips.
