In honor of Banned Books Week, join your Longmont Librarians at the Longmont Museum for a special event featuring a screening of the 2024 Academy Award-nominated short film “The ABCs of Book Banning” from 2:30-4 pm on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. This impactful film explores the complexities and consequences of book censorship.

Following the screening, enjoy “Books on the Chopping Block,” a selection of readings from the top 10 most frequently challenged books of 2023, presented by the Outlaw Production Collective. These powerful readings will shed light on the ongoing challenges to literary freedom.

The afternoon will conclude with a panel discussion featuring librarians and students who are actively engaged in combating censorship in Colorado. This discussion will provide insight into the front-line efforts to preserve the freedom to read.

Banned Books Week, observed from Sept. 22-28, 2024, is an annual national event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Organized by the American Library Association, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship.

Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate and defend intellectual freedom. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required at bit.ly/LibAdults or by calling Adult Services at 303-651-8472.
