Healthy Lawns, Healthy Streams
Chemicals applied to lawns and gardens in the spring often end up in nearby streams, harming aquatic life and causing excessive algae growth. Before adding pesticides and fertilizers, conduct a soil test to determine if additional nutrients are needed. Use locally-sourcedcompost instead of store-bought fertilizers and try alternative pest management techniques instead of pesticides to combat plant diseases, pests, and weeds. Learn more at keepitcleanpartnership.org.
Please Collect Hooks, Lures and Lines
Discarded fishing line poses a serious threat to birds. Getting tangled makes it hard to move, eat or escape from predators. Too often birds are injured – and must be euthanized – due to fishing line and hooks. Please help by collecting discarded lines and hooks. See a bird in trouble? Report it at 303-651-8416.
Stay Safe – Call Before You Dig!
Stay safe when you dig into yard work this spring. Colorado law requires you to call 811 at least three business days before any excavation work, so all utilities can mark their lines with paint or flags. Breaking a utility line can be expensive and dangerous, so call before you dig! Details at bit.ly/DigSafeLongmont.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Rebates
Rebates from Longmont Power & Communications for qualifying electric vehicle (EV) chargers are available now. Receive up to $500 for a level 2 residential EV charger or up to $1,000 for a dual-port level 2 charger on a multi-family site for public use. Applications are open and rebates will be available while funds last. Learn more and apply at bit.ly/energyrebateslongmont or call 303-651-8599.
Toss Your Caps, Not Your Balloons
Longmont’s newest graduates will soon move up in the world , but don’t let the celebrations move up into the power lines! When mylar balloons sail into the skies, their metallic surface can cause short circuit faults and power outages when they get tangled in the lines. So hang on to them tight, deflate them when you’re done, and remember, if anything gets caught in the lines – such a balloon, a kite, or a drone – don’t try to retrieve it yourself. Stay safe, and call Longmont Power & Communications at 303-651-8386.
