Community Development Week
The City of Longmont is celebrating National Community Development Week, April 17-22, at the April 11 City Council meeting. Staff will premiere a short 3-minute video starring local school children, and Mayor Coombs will read a proclamation recognizing the work of Longmont staff. National Community Development week showcases the impact of federal Community Development Block Grants and HOME Investment Partnerships, which bring about $650,000 in additional vital resources to Longmont every year.

Help “Clean-up, Green-up” Longmont
You’re invited to help spruce up the city! Volunteers can pick a park, greenway, street, alley or open space to clean up, or an area can be assigned. The Grand Kick-Off for the month-long campaign is from 7:30 to 10:30 am on Saturday, April 8, at Sunset Campus, 7 S. Sunset Street. If you can’t participate on kick-off day, you can help “Clean-up, Green-up” through April 30. For more information, call 303-651-8955 or visit LongmontColorado.gov/parks.

Shock Art Call to Artists
Are you a creative type, who envisions a new design opportunity every time you pass a green switchgear box? The call to artists for the Art in Public Places Shock Art program is now open. Submit your designs at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road, by 4 pm on Friday, May 12. Designs will be voted on by the community, and selected artists receive a $1,550 stipend. Underwater Easter Egg Hunt
Join Recreation & Golf Services from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, April 15, for the annual underwater Easter egg hunt. Swimmers of all abilities can collect weighted eggs from the bottom of Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine Street. A paying adult must be in the water with children age 5 and younger. The cost is $10 per family/$3 per swimmer/$1 per observer. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/rec or call 303-651-8406 with questions. No registration is necessary; the hunt begins at 1:30 pm.

Park and Trail Restrooms Open April 15
Many park restrooms close for winter and reopen in spring (it’s a plumbing thing). Beginning April 15 all restrooms will be open from 5 am to 11 pm. Restrooms are cleaned and restocked once per day, seven days a week. If you see a problem with a park or greenway public restroom facility, report it online at LongmontColorado.gov/serviceworks or call 303-651-8416.

Welcome Spring with Special Storytime
Enjoy dance and stories with a spring theme at the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue, from 1 to 2 pm on Saturday, April 15, when the Airborne Tour Ensemble will perform. This program is best for families with children age 10 and younger. Registration is not required. 

Waste Diversion Center Hours to Change
Saturday, April 15, marks the start of spring/summer hours at Longmont’s Waste Diversion Center (WDC). The WDC will be open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 5:45 pm (closed on Sundays and holidays). Single-stream recycling bins are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Longmont residents pay no fee to use the WDC; please bring identification and your most recent Longmont utility bill. Reserve Park Shelters Online
Recreation Services is your one-stop shop for reserving a Longmont park shelter for birthday parties, family celebrations and summer picnics. The resident cost for small shelters is $40/day (April 15 – May 14 and August 15 – October 15) and $60/day May 15 – August 14. Landlord Alliance: Hot Topics in Fair Housing
From 6:30 to 8:15 pm on Wednesday, April 12, attorney Deb Wilson will discuss policy changes coming from HUD and provide timely and helpful information for landlords and property managers regarding fair housing.
