Longmont Sister Cities Wins International Award
Sister Cities International, a nonprofit member association for United States sister city organizations, has awarded their 2022 Innovation Award in Arts and Culture to Longmont Sister Cities Association (LSCA) in recognition for the signing ceremony that saw the formation of the first-ever sister cities relationship between a sovereign tribal nation and a U.S. city. 

RTD: Zero Fare for Better Air in August
As a result of new state legislation, all RTD services are free throughout the month of August to help improve air quality. While everyone has access to fare-free transit on all RTD local and Access-a-Ride buses year-round within Longmont, the regional and express buses in and out of Longmont still require fares or passes. In August, routes like the BOLT between Longmont and Boulder, and the LD bus services between Longmont and Denver will be free. Visit rtd-denver.com to plan your trip.

Recreation Center pool maintenance closure
Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance on systems and equipment. The swimming pools at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road, will be closed Aug. 20 through Sept. 11. Please visit Centennial Pool and Sunset Pool during the closure. Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day
From 9 am-1 pm on Saturday, Aug. 27, drop off your paint, fertilizers, pesticides, oils, cleaning solvents and other household hazardous waste at the Waste Services Center, 110 S. Martin St., during the City’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day. Hazardous chemicals are not accepted at the Airport Road facility or the Waste Diversion Center. Be sure to bring a current City of Longmont utility bill and identification to show you are a City resident. This event is for Longmont residents only; no commercial or business waste accepted.

Sunset Golf Course: 100th Anniversary ParTee
Celebrate 100 years of golfing enjoyment from 5-8 pm on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Sunset Golf Course ParTee, 1900 Longs Peak Ave.  Featuring games, giveaways and live music from Old’s Cool Rock — this night will be a hole-in-one! The first 200 guests will receive free hot dogs and chips; food, drinks and commemorative merchandise will also be available for purchase. Senior Center Tech Connect
For the Fall 2022 quarter, Longmont Senior Center Tech Connect offers in-person lectures, labs and tutoring at the Senior Center; online lectures, labs and game time via Zoom; and personal coaching. SCTC has helped seniors learn about the latest advances in technology and how to stay connected to friends and family in a warm and friendly environment. Sign up for emergency reverse notification
If police or fire had to reach you in an emergency, could we? Anyone living within Longmont city limits that no longer has a landline in their home and wants to receive police and fire emergency reverse notifications must register. These communication devices may include, but are not limited to cell phones, VOIP (voice over internet protocol), email, etc. For registration and frequently asked questions, visit longmontcolorado.gov and search “reverse notification.”

Unity in the Community: Friday, Aug. 26
Head downtown for Unity in the Community from 4-9 pm on Friday, Aug. 26, for a celebration of Longmont — the people, the businesses, the arts, the culture and even the elected officials of our city collide at this vibrant festival. This event is fun for the whole family with entertainment and activities including a dunk tank, mobile arcade and more! The event will end with a concert featuring local band The Pamlico Sound, champions of high-energy, authentic funk and soul music. “Tipi to Tiny House” exhibit at Museum
In the Longmont Museum’s family-friendly exhibit, “Tipi to Tiny House: Hands-on Homebuilding,” visitors explore and build homes from Colorado’s past and present including a tipi, shepherd’s wagon, log cabin, tiny house and even a pillow fort! Kids Triathlon and Adult Try-a-Tri
The Kid’s Only Triathlon (ages 6-17, $50) and adult Try-a-Tri (ages 16+, $55) are back on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. The Try-a-Tri is a super sprint distance triathlon meant for first-timers, those getting back in racing shape or looking for something new.
