Free Shredding Event This Weekend
Recycle personal documents safely and securely at this free event. Bring boxed or bagged papers to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, August 15. Please also bring ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. This event is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Longmont Youth Council Recruiting New Members
The Longmont Youth Council is looking for enthusiastic, creative and committed students in the 8th through 12th grade who live in the City of Longmont that would like to make a difference, have fun while developing leadership skills, and work at improving our community. Meetings are held on the second and the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Longmont Youth Center from 4 to 5:30 pm. 

City Seeking Community Unity Award Nominations

The City of Longmont is accepting applications for the 2015 Community Unity Award. Please provide specific examples of how your nominee demonstrates optimism in the ability to achieve an inclusive/diverse community. Call 303-651-8444 with any questions or to request more forms. Applications are due on September 11, 2015 at 5 p.m. The award will be presented at the annual Inclusive Communities Celebration on September 25, 2015.

End of Summer Dog Swims
After the Roosevelt Activity Pool is closed to the general human public, the pool chemicals are neutralized making the water safe for dogs. All friendly dogs are welcome; balls and bags will be provided. You also can visit several dog-friendly vendors. No people swimming, and thank you for picking up after your pooch! Dog swims are from 9 am to noon and from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 18, at Roosevelt Activity Pool, 803 8th Avenue. Admission is $3 per dog, and recreation passes are not valid. History Night with the Legendary Ladies
Bring your picnic, chairs and blankets to the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 E. Highway 119, on Tuesday, August 18, for this free community night. Enjoy lawn games from from 5 to 8 pm, and at 6:30 pm learn about history from the Legendary Ladies: socialite and teacher Rosamond Underwood, suffragist Ellis Meredith, CU professor Mary Rippon, and Colorado rancher Lady Moon, also known as Cussin’ Kate. Free Law Clinic
A free Law Clinic will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 19, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. You can speak to attorneys at no charge about immigration law, criminal law, collections, bankruptcy, family law, employment law, fair housing, landlord/tenant law, consumer issues, personal injury, probate, and Social Security. Dog Walker Watchers Wanted
Longmont Public Safety is starting a new Neighborhood Watch program called Dog Walker Watch that encourages dog walkers to serve as extra “eyes and ears” for public safety. A training session will be held from 6:30 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 20, at Fire Station #5, 617 Barberry Drive, where you’ll learn steps to take when you notice a suspicious situation. New Look for City Parking Tickets
City of Longmont parking tickets are getting a makeover. The new tickets are white, completely typed, and longer in length than the former tickets, and they will not be printed on an envelope. Payment methods remain the same. If you believe you’ve received a ticket in error, you have 10 days to appeal through an administrative form and 30 days to request and pay for a parking hearing through the Longmont Municipal Court. Recreation Facility Maintenance Closures
Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance on systems and equipment. Centennial Pool is currently closed and will reopen Wednesday, August 26. The Longmont Recreation Center will close August 30 and reopen on Labor Day, September 7, with holiday hours from 10 am to 4 pm.
