New garden at Kensington Park

To better preserve and highlight the public art piece “The Unity Project,” the City is removing the grass around the mosaic and will be planting a perennial garden. Designed by a Denver Botanic Garden designer, the garden will highlight the mosaic and help visitors learn about water-wise plants you can

easily put in your own yard. Learn more about the Kensington Park project by visiting the Grass to Garden webpage.

Design your waterwise yard this fall!

Still thinking about planting a new garden? Fall-planted perennials have less transplant shock, develop healthy roots faster, and may use less water during establishment. Not to mention the huge debut they make their first spring. Check out waterwiseyards.org to check out some inspiration, success stories, and free designs! In addition, there are still gardens for sale at the Resource Central website— Get them before they’re gone!

Free swim lesson sessions

Recreation Services is sponsoring 200 free swim lesson sessions for resident youth who do not know how to swim. The goal of this program is to provide more opportunities for youth to learn how to be safe and have fun in and around the water. To qualify, applicants must be a child aged 3-12 years old; in need of beginner swim lessons; live within the city limits of Longmont; demonstrate a financial need; and have not taken swim lessons with the City of Longmont in the past. For more information and to apply, visit the Swim webpage, stop by Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine St., or call 303-774-4706.

Removing and reporting graffiti

Removing graffiti as soon as possible is important because graffiti adds to the deterioration of neighborhoods if left in place. When an individual or neighborhood becomes involved in active and frequent removal of graffiti, it sends a message to offenders that their destructive graffiti and other activities will not be tolerated. Please submit a report online through ServiceWorks (longmontcolorado.gov/serviceworks) or call the graffiti hotline at 303-774-4327. Calls will be responded to Monday through Friday within 48 hours. If you see graffiti in progress, call 9-1-1. Useful information you can provide includes a description of those involved and their vehicle description (if there is one). Do not approach those involved in what you believe is an illegal activity. More information on graffiti removal can be found on the Longmont website and searching “graffiti.”
