Join Boulder County Parks & Open Space and the Longmont Librarians for a entertaining, lively presentation all about prairie dogs from 6-7:30 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Longmont Library, 409 Fourth Ave. These fascinating creatures are more than cute little rodents who chew up the grass. Delve into the ecology, social structure, life cycle, behavior and language of this keystone species – the pillar of the prairie. Registration is required for this event at bit.ly/LibPrograms.

The Historic Callahan House & Garden, 312 Terry St., will host an Open House with self-guided tours from 4-8 pm on Saturday, Sept. 10, during ArtWalk. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Public Safety CERT class
The next Longmont Public Safety CERT class starts Sept. 10 and is being held on three consecutive Saturdays. There is no cost to attend. Disasters can severely restrict and overwhelm emergency responders, and in some cases, communities can be cut off from outside emergency support. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training teaches community members how to prepare for emergencies. Team members learn to take care of themselves and to help others in their communities until first responders arrive. For additional information and to register visit longmontcolorado.gov and search “CERT” or call 303-651-8438.
