Most City Facilities Closed Monday
Longmont city government observes the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 2. Most City facilities will be CLOSED. The Longmont Recreation Center will be open from 10 am to 4 pm; outdoor pool schedules are below. Trash, recycling and composting will be collected one day later than usual through the week.

Final Day for Outdoor Swimming
Don’t miss your chance to swim outdoors this summer! Sunset Pool at 1900 Longs Peak Avenue will be open for the last day of the season from 10 am to 5 pm on Labor Day, September 2, with a special aqua Zumba class from noon to 1 pm. Labor Day also is the last day to swim at the beach at Union Reservoir and enjoy the splash pads at Sandstone Ranch and Stephen Day parks. Celebrate the Harvest at Storytime
Take your children to the Library at 409 4th Avenue from 11 to 11:30 am on Friday, September 6, for a special harvest-themed storytime with our friends from Growing Gardens. We’ll read books about how food is grown and the variety of delicious fruits and vegetables that come from the garden, then taste some produce from Growing Gardens’ Food Project Farm in Longmont. This storytime is for children of all ages and their families. No registration required.

Household Hazardous Chemical Drop-off
The City will host the annual Household Chemical Drop-off Day from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, September 7, at the Public Works facility, 375 Airport Road. Take your current City of Longmont utility bill to show that you’re a waste services customer. Accepted materials include cleaners, solvents, pesticides, aerosol cans, paint and other chemical wastes generated from homes. Items not accepted include commercial and business wastes, biological wastes, medical wastes, medicines, radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, explosives, fireworks, ammunition and fire extinguishers. Guided History Tours at Sandstone Ranch
Enjoy a 90-minute guided indoor and, weather permitting, outdoor tour of the historic Morse Coffin family home on Saturday, September 14, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Learn about the home’s early history and major renovation in the 1900s and all that Sandstone Ranch offers our community today. All ages are welcome. Tours are offered at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm, and registration is required. Call 303-651-8404 to reserve your spot. There is a suggested donation of $2/child and $4/adult collected at the event. September is International Suicide Prevention Month. To support our community, Supporting Action for Mental Health has organized a month-long series of events and discussions about creating mental wellness. Learn About Xeriscaping and Native Plants
Xeriscaping and using native plants in our landscapes doesn’t mean gravel and ugly plants. Join Boulder County Extension Agent Sharon Bokan from 8:30 to 9:30 am on Saturday, September 14, as she shows that native plants can provide a beautiful, easy care, low water use landscape. This will be a classroom talk followed by a tour of native and xeriscaped plants. This program is at the Natural Resources Building at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road. Volunteer at Sandstone Ranch
The Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive, is seeking volunteers to assist with second grade educational field trips. We’re looking for people who like to be around kids in an outdoor setting, who are able to do some walking, and who have a willingness to learn.
