Public Invited to Rededication of Kanemoto Park
After five years of planning and restoration, Kanemoto Park begins a new chapter as the social and recreational hub for the Southmoor Park neighborhood. The Longmont community is invited to a rededication ceremony at the park, located at 1151 S. Pratt Parkway, at 10 am on Monday, August 8. The event celebrates the new Kanemoto pool, a new playground, and the restoration of the Tower of Compassion.

Free Landfill Drop Day
The City of Longmont offers residents an opportunity to take one level pickup load free of charge to the Front Range Landfill at 1830 Weld County Road 5 in Erie from 6 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 6. Loads must be covered and secured; oversize loads and second loads will be billed. Please take a photo ID and a copy of your current utility bill to show that you are a City of Longmont customer. Sales and Use Tax Seminar 
Do you have questions about the business sales and use tax in Longmont? A free seminar that will answer all your questions will be held from noon to 2 pm on Wednesday, August 10, in the Finance Conference Room at the Civic Center, 350 Kimbark Street. Recreation Facility Maintenance Closures
Every year, the City’s recreation facilities close for maintenance on systems and equipment. The St. Vrain Memorial Building will close on Monday, August 8, and reopen on Monday, August 15. Centennial Pool will close on Saturday, August 20, and reopen on Monday, August 29. The Longmont Recreation Center will close on Sunday, August 28, and reopen on Monday, September 5, with holiday hours from 10 am to 4 pm. Landlord Alliance: Legislative Update
From 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, August 10, the Longmont Landlord Alliance presents Luke Miller from the Colorado Apartment Association, who will discuss current legislative issues that affect landlords. Hear the “Naked Mountaineer” at the Library
Steve Sieberson, author of “The Naked Mountaineer,” will speak about his solo journeys to some of the world’s most exotic peaks from 7 to 8:30 on Thursday, August 11, at the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue. Known for his wide-eyed view of the world and irreverent commentary on climbers and their peculiar sport, Sieberson offers rollicking tales filled with the unexpected. Adult Fall Sports Leagues
Longmont Recreation & Golf Services offers adult leagues in kickball, softball, flag football and basketball. And new in 2016, get ready for crazy glow fun, and register for the new Adult Glow Coed Kickball League. If you’re looking for relaxed, adult coed recreation, this 8 pm league is for you. Register to Race Against Domestic Violence
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley and LEVI (Longmont Ending Violence Initiative) will cohost the 3rd Annual Race Against Domestic Violence 5K Run/Walk at McIntosh Lake on Saturday, October 1. This is a professionally timed event that is well suited for both casual and competitive participants. Proceeds from this all-ages family event starting at Dawson Park, 1757 Harvard Street, will benefit victims of domestic violence and their families. Register online at RaceMenu.com/radv5k.

Volunteer to Teach English
Intercambio Uniting Communities needs volunteers! Intercambio trains volunteers to teach English to adult immigrants one-on-one and in group settings in and around Longmont. NO teaching experience or Spanish language ability is necessary. The commitment is approximately four hours per week. City’s Annual Street Chip Sealing Program Begins Week of August 8
Most of the areas selected for chip seal treatment are residential; higher traffic sections include 9th Avenue (Main Street to Baker Street) and Martin Street (3rd Avenue to the St. Vrain Creek bridge). In conjunction with the City of Longmont’s Pavement Management Program, crews will apply chip seal treatments to select area roadways through the week of August 8. Open Cabin Days at Old Mill Park
Come visit life in the St. Vrain Valley in the 1800s and celebrate Old Mill Park’s 40th Birthday with a piece of birthday cake at Old Mill Park, 237 Pratt St  on Wednesday August 10, 5 to 8 pm.  Docents in period costume provide a personal look into the lives of pioneers. View the Affolter Cabin (1860), the Billings Cabin (1890) and the Hauke Milk House (1860), all structures moved to the park from the surrounding area. Learn about the art of cheese making, view demonstrations of weaving and spinning, try a pioneer craft (for children) and enjoy the music of The Mountain Dulcimer Group. Bring a picnic dinner – tables are available for your use in the park. This is a fundraiser for the St. Vrain Historical Society; donations are appreciated to help preserve the park. Stop by our store where you can purchase bonnets, bandanas and historical books.
