Affolter Park Next Up for Renewal
Improvements to the City of Longmont’s Affolter Neighborhood Park, 1400 Holly Ave., are slated to begin Monday, Aug. 10, and work is expected to continue until the spring of 2021, weather and circumstances permitting. The improvements, part of the City’s life-cycle replacement and park renewal program, were identified as high-priority needs as part of the 2014 Parks, Recreation & Trails Master Plan, in which the community voiced a strong desire to “Take Care of What We Have.”

Watch Council Meetings Live or Recorded
Although residents can’t attend city council meetings in person right now, it’s easy for you to view meetings, either live or recorded. To watch the meetings live at 7 pm on Tuesdays, visit the City’s YouTube channel at bit.ly/longmontyoutubelive or Longmont Public Media’s livestream at LongmontPublicMedia.org/watch. Following each meeting, you can view the recording on YouTube. You also can call in to speak at “public invited to be heard” and during public hearings on specific issues. Watch for the instructions that are shown on the live feed immediately prior to each opportunity to speak.

How You Can Engage in The SH 119 Study (En Español)
Join us for an online Town Hall on Wednesday, August 12, 5 to 6 pm where you can learn more about the  State Highway 119 First and Final Mile Study project, ask questions to the project team, and provide your input on recommendations for the corridor. The same content will be shared at each Town Hall, and the August 12 meeting will be conducted in Spanish only. Puedes encontrar la encuesta en español aquí.

Protect Yourself From West Nile Virus
The mosquito-borne West Nile virus can cause serious illness, even death. Protect yourself by using DEET or an alternative, dressing in long sleeves and long pants, staying inside from dusk to dawn, and draining standing water. Longmont contracts for citywide monitoring, and spraying is used when mosquitoes that carry West Nile exceed thresholds. To stay informed and to add your name to the notification or shutoff lists, visit LongmontColorado.gov/WestNile.

Help Weed the Garden
Spend a socially distanced morning from 8 to 10:30 am on Thursday, August 13, helping weed the beautiful demonstration garden at 7 S. Sunset Street. Volunteers must wear a mask and bring their own gloves and water. Register and learn more at https://bit.ly/3hWKelQ.
