Dog Dayz of Summer Dog Swims
Bring your socialized dog to Longmont’s activity pools for swimming and fun! Dog Dayz swimming will be offered August 13-25 with a special kick-off event from 9 am to noon and 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 13, at Roosevelt Activity Pool, 903 8th Avenue. Many dog-friendly vendors will be in attendance. Enjoy more Dog Dayz swimming at Roosevelt Activity Pool and Kanemoto Activity Pool, 1151 S. Pratt Parkway, at various times and dates with separate hours for small and large dogs. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/swim for details. All friendly dogs are welcome; balls and bags will be provided. Join the Mayor for Book Club Storytime
Take your preschoolers to the Library at 409 4th Avenue from 11 to 11:30 am on Thursday, August 15, for a live recording of the Mayor’s Book Club storytime. The mayor will read books for 3- and 4-year-olds, and the sessions will be recorded and shown on Longmont’s Channel 8. The Mayor’s Book Club is sponsored by the City’s Division of Children, Youth and Families and Bright EYES. No registration is needed. Learn more about the book club at bit.ly/LongmontMBC.  

Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Take boxed or bagged papers to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, August 10. This is for residential documents only; no business documents accepted. Please also take ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. Beautiful Roses Without Chemicals
Do you want beautiful roses without using chemicals? At the next session in the Parks, Open Space & Trails education series, Harlequin’s Gardens owner Mikl Brawner will describe how to select the correct varieties and provide proper nutrition and the right culture. Volunteer Fair at the Library
Head to the Library at 409 4th Avenue between 10 am and noon on Saturday, August 17, to learn how you can change the world by volunteering in our community. The Volunteer Fair for adults and teens showcases local nonprofits and volunteer groups. Find out what they do and how you can help. No registration is necessary; just stop by the Library and discover the opportunities that await you.

Learn About the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
London’s Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world. At the next session in the Parks, Open Space & Trails education series, Boulder County Extension Agent Deryn Davidson will share stories about her three months working in the garden, including her experience taking care of the Queen’s roses. This free program is from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Thursday, August 29, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Registration is required at JoinUs.LongmontColorado.gov.

Waste Services App Makes Trash Day Easy
With the free Longmont Waste Services mobile app you can be notified of your trash pickup day, access the Waste Wizard sorting tool, and learn more about special collection services and events offered by the Waste Services division. The Waste Services app, available in both English and Spanish, is personalized to your address to provide details on which services (composting, recycling, trash) are being collected each week.
