Project ALERT Community Meeting
Project ALERT is a new effort by residents for residents to give residents the knowledge and tools they need to strengthen their neighborhoods. The next class will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Thursday, December 21, at the OUR Center, 220 Collyer Street. You’ll learn what to do about common code violations, about new services for our local homeless population, and how to prepare for winter storms. Longmont Gets Day in the Sun With SolSmart Bronze Award
Longmont will be presented with a federal SolSmart Bronze designation at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, recognizing the city’s efforts to make it faster and easier to “go solar.” SolSmart designations go to communities that have worked to reduce the “soft costs” of installing a solar energy system, such as permitting, financing, and other non-hardware expenses.

Start Winter Break with a Cozy Day of Reading
Kick off a great break from school with a Winter Break Read-in at the Library, 409 4th Avenue, from 11 am to 4 pm on Monday, December 18. Children and teens can enjoy a full day of reading and chilling – snacks provided! The main children’s area will be set up for lounging, and teens can get comfy in the teen’s area. No registration required. 

See “The Christmas Cookie Sprinkle Snitcher”
In two storytime sessions, librarians at the Longmont Public Library will bring a holiday favorite to life with a live performance of “The Christmas Cookie Sprinkle Snitcher.” Stop by the Library at 409 4th Avenue for a 10:15 am or 11 am performance on Tuesday, December 19. This special storytime is fun for all ages, and no registration is required. 

Holiday Tree Recycling
From December 26 through January 7 the City of Longmont provides four satellite Christmas tree drop-off locations: Roosevelt Park – parking lot south of 8th Avenue (by pool), Garden Acres Park – west side of parking lot off 18th Avenue, Kanemoto Park – parking lot off of S. Pratt Parkway, and Centennial Park – east parking lot off of Alpine Street. Please remove all holiday decorations and light strands. You also can recycle your tree at the Waste Diversion Center, 140 Martin Street, from 7:30 am to 4:45 pm, Monday through Saturday.
