Use Deicers Responsibly

While deicers are helpful in keeping walkways and driveways safe, melting snow carries them through storm drains to nearby streams – without treatment – where they’re harmful to aquatic life. When using deicers, apply according to instructions as soon as icy conditions appear. Deicers help break the bond between ice and pavement to make shoveling easier. Because they do not evaporate snow and ice, adding more does not eliminate the need to shovel.

Universal Recycling Ordinance: Compost

The third phase of Longmont’s Universal Recycling Ordinance (URO) will begin implementation on January 1, 2025, requiring organics (composting) collection for food wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers, and grocery stores. The City is offering financial assistance and other support for compliance. Learn more at bit.ly/URO-info or call 303-651-8416 or email sustainability@longmontcolorado.gov.
