Power Down? Give LPC a Call

A typical Longmont home can go years between power outages (if it sees them at all), but if the cold and icy winter weather knocks out your power, Longmont Power & Communications wants to get everything back on as quickly as possible. Call LPC’s outage line at 303-776-0011 any time of day or night – even holidays! – so that a crew can come out and help. Customers also can call LPC’s main office number, 303-651-8386, but please do not report an outage by email or Facebook, as these may not be checked until regular business hours. Best wishes for a bright new year!

Winter Break Makerspace Afternoons
Get out of the house and get to the Library at 409 4th Avenue for Winter Break Makerspace Afternoons from 1 to 4 pm every day from Monday, December 19, through Saturday, December 31 (except December 25 and 26). From noon to 1 pm on Tuesday, December 27, join yoga instructor Caitlin Rose Kenney at the Longmont Public Library, 407 4th Avenue, for an hour-long beginning yoga session to relax and de-stress. This class is specially designed for teens in 6th through 12th grades, and all levels of yoga experience are welcome. Bring a yoga mat; a small number will be available to borrow. This program is limited to 25 participants. Call 303-651-8477 to register.

Public Safety Citizen Academy
Have you ever wondered how heavy that firefighting gear really is? Curious as to why the SWAT team is deployed on some incidents and not others? Do you want to know why firefighters travel to the grocery store in the fire engine? Get the answers to these questions and more at the Public Safety Citizen Academy. Class will be held on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, February 1 – May 3. Two Saturday field days also will be scheduled during that time. This academy includes hands-on classroom experience, a tour of the Longmont Emergency Communications Center, and a tour of fire vehicles and an ambulance. For registration and more information visit LongmontColorado.gov and search “citizen academy” or call 303-651-8523.
