Virtual Council Meetings Begin December 7
Due to rising concerns about Covid-19, the Longmont City Council has reverted to virtual council meetings. Beginning December 7, Longmont residents can provide public comment from the comfort and safety of their homes by watching the meeting via livestream. The City Council will hold their regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, via remote virtual meeting using the Zoom software. Comments are limited to three minutes per person. City Council meetings are live-streamed and can be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel, on LongmontPublicMedia.org, or on Comcast Xfinity Channel 8 (SD) or Channel 880 (HD).
Vaccine Verified Hours Begin at Memorial Building Weight Room
Longmont Recreation will be an Approved Vaccine Verified Facility at select locations, days, and times beginning on Monday, December 13, 2021. The St. Vrain Memorial Building weight room will be a Vaccine Verified workout location select days and hours of the week, allowing those who have proven to be vaccinated against COVID-19 an option to workout and exercise without a mask.
Longmont Lights Events & Details
- Longmont Lights!: Enjoy the magic of the newly designed sparkling lights display and free outdoor family activities from Dec. 10-11 in Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Ave., during the City’s annual holiday celebration, Longmont Lights! - Friday Festival: Between 5-8 pm on Friday, Dec. 10, take a stroll around Roosevelt Park, which will be filled with lights and activities including the Home Depot Santa’s Workshop (5-7:30 p.m.), visits with Santa, fire pits, hot cocoa carts, balloon glow, holiday music and the annual fireworks show (7:45 pm). The Longmont Ice Pavilion will be open for ice skating from 5-7 pm (reservations required) with free skate rental, and local food vendors will have menu items for purchase. All activities are outdoors.
- Saturday Parade of Lights: See the twinkling floats during the “Merry & Bright” holiday parade as they make their way down Coffman Street and Main Street starting at 5 pm on Saturday, Dec. 11. Don’t miss Santa as he waves to all a good night. It’s not too late to be a part of the parade! Monday is the deadline for all Parade float applications. Call 303-774-4694 to apply.
BIFF Short Films at Longmont Museum
Join the Longmont Museum for the third of three evenings dedicated to short films from this year’s Boulder International Film Festival starting at 7:15 pm on Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. Curbside Composting Service Expands
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity Program recently awarded the City of Longmont $70,000 (Longmont matched about $31,000) to encourage residents to compost yard and kitchen waste. The grant allows the City to expand its residential curbside composting program by purchasing and distributing 1,000 additional composting carts to Longmont residents. As more households compost, the City will continue to move closer to its goal of 50 percent residential waste diversion from landfill by 2025. Longmont residents can subscribe to the curbside compost services by submitting a request online by visiting Serviceworks.LongmontColorado.gov or by calling 303-651-8416. Wintertime Stories & Cookie DecoratingJoin the Longmont Librarians for a special Wintertime Stories and even pick up a gingerbread cookie decorating kit! Kits will be available for pick up at the Library from 9 am until 8 pm at the Children and Teens’ desk on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and Wednesday, Dec. 15. Each kit contains everything you need to decorate four cute gingerbread cookies. Then, join Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Claire online from 6-6:30 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 15, for a cozy virtual storytime to welcome the winter season!
