Most City Facilities Closed on Monday
Longmont city government observes the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, February 20. These facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Library, Museum, Senior Center, Youth Center, Development Services Center, and Waste Diversion Center. The St. Vrain Memorial Building will be closed, but all other recreation facilities will be open regular hours. Trash and recycling will be collected one day later than normal during this week.
All About Owls
Join Recreation Services from 12:30 to 2 pm on Saturday, February 25, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive, to learn what makes owls different from other birds and raptors, from their feathers and eyes to their talons and digestion. No live owls will be present. Suggested donation of $4 per person, collected at the event. All ages welcome! Call 303-651-8404 to register.
Special Drawing Workshop for Children
Artist Peg Hilliard, the Longmont Public Library’s current Maker-in-Residence, will share her talent and love of drawing with young artists in the “Two-handed Learning to Draw” program from 1 to 2:30 pm on Saturday, February 25, at the Library, 409 4th Avenue. Children will learn how it feels to engage their whole brains in service to the joy and adventure of drawing. This program is best for 4th and 5th grade students. Register online at bit.ly/LibKids. “The President’s Kitchen Cabinet: The Story of the African Americans Who Have Fed Our First Families, From the Washingtons to the Obamas” vividly tells the stories of African Americans who worked in the Presidential Food Service as chefs, personal cooks, butlers, stewards, and servers for every first family since George and Martha Washington. Author Adrian Miller brings the stories of more than 150 black men and women who played remarkable roles in unforgettable events in the nation’s history to the Longmont Public Library at 409 4th Avenue from 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 9. The Longmont Department of Public Safety is seeking volunteer “angels” to work with the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative. This program encourages drug users to seek recovery and connects those with addictions to treatment programs and facilities. Volunteers are needed to respond to callouts to assist the department in connecting people with resources. Program callouts can occur at any time, day or night; however, it is not a requirement to be available 24 hours a day. Coffee with Council
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, February 25, at Mac’s Place, 1640 Pace Street.
