Register Early for Kids’ Fishing Program
The 12th annual Chick Clark Kids’ Fishing Program kickoff event will be held on Saturday, April 4, at Izaak Walton Park, 18 S. Sunset Street. This program provides a special opportunity for Longmont youth ages 15 and younger to learn about local natural resources, participate in fun outdoor activities and catch their own fish, year-round. The April 4 kickoff includes a free kids’ fishing clinic (preregistration required), free lunch and free fishing for kids. During a snow/ice event, look for the Winter Weather Alerts posted to the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. You can also view road conditions at points around town through our real-time Street Snow Cams. You can also find information on preparing for extreme winter weather on the Office of Emergency Management Snow Storm webpage.
Cultural Event Grant Available
The purpose of the Cultural Event grant is to support communities, groups and individuals of Longmont in celebrating the diversity of cultures within Longmont. The City of Longmont provides mini-grants of up to $800 to support new events or enhance projects which contribute to the diversity of community events. Applications available online. Application deadline is March 20.
Forum and Stories of the Civil Rights Movement
The public is invited to hear stories from local community members who were part of the Civil Rights Movement and its significance today and to participate in an open discussion. This event begins at 6 pm on Monday, February 23, at the Front Range Christian Fellowship Center, 10667 Parkridge Avenue. This presentation is sponsored by the Longmont Dr. King Committee/African American Association of Longmont, the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee and Front Range Christian Fellowship Center. Marketing Essentials for Small Business
The Small Business Development Center, in partnership with the Longmont Area Economic Council and the City of Longmont, will offer a workshop on how to develop a marketing plan for your business. The class will be held from 6 to 9 pm on Tuesday, March 10, at the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce at 528 Main Street, and it’s free to prospective and existing small businesses in Longmont. Celebrate Chinese New Year
The Asian-Pacific Association of Longmont invites the public to a celebration of Chinese New Year from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, February 28, at Silver Creek High School, 4901 Nelson Road. Enjoy lion dancing, martial arts demonstrations, taiko drums, Asian music and food, and much more. This event is free.
Learn About Owls Up Close at Sandstone Ranch
For several years, different owl species have made Sandstone Ranch their winter home. From 10 am to noon on Saturday, February 28, learn all about general owl ecology at the Sandstone Ranch Visitor and Learning Center, 3001 E. Highway 119. You might also see birds of prey scouring the fields for rodents, so bring a pair of binoculars. The information presented is appropriate for ages 7 through adult, and while at the park visitors must abide by strict “owl etiquette.” There is a $4 suggested donation per person at the door.
