Flood Recovery: Another Portion of St. Vrain Greenway Repaired
St. Vrain Greenway from County Line Road to the connection with Left Hand Greenway is officially open to bicycle and pedestrian use. In addition to this trail segment opening, the trailheads located at 119th Street and County Line Road are also open for use. This marks another step forward in Longmont’s journey to recovery after the September 2013 flood. Watch an informative video with project manager, Tom Caprarella, to see all that was done.
Have A Heart for the Homeless
February is Have a Heart for the Homeless at Longmont Public Safety and in partnership with HOPE (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement). Public Safety is collecting items for Longmont’s homeless through February 28. Items can be dropped off in the lobby of the Safety and Justice Building, 225 Kimbark, between 6 am and midnight. For additional information on HOPE and the services provided to the community, please call (720) 494-4673 or visit http://www.hopeforlongmont.org/.
Community Emergency Response Training
Disasters can severely restrict and overwhelm emergency responders, and in some cases, as in a flood, it can leave communities cut off from outside emergency support. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training teaches community members how to prepare for and survive hazards. Team members are trained to take care of themselves and to help others until first responders arrive. The next class meets on Saturdays, February 21 through March 7. For more information and to register visit LongmontColorado.gov and search for “CERT class.”
