Most City Facilities Closed Monday
Longmont city government observes the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday on Monday, January 16. These facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Development Services Center, Library, Museum, Senior Center, Youth Center, and Waste Diversion Center. All recreation facilities except the St. Vrain Memorial Building will be open regular hours. The Ice Pavilion opens for public skating at 10:15 am, and Centennial Pool has open swim from 10 am to 3 pm on no-school days. Trash and recycling will be collected one day later than usual during the week.
City Council Open Forum
The January 17 city council meeting, beginning at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street, will be an Open Forum for residents to talk for 5 minutes each to council members about any topic on their minds. This is the only agenda item for this meeting; plan to arrive a little early to put your name on the list of speakers. Honoring Dr. King in Longmont
The community is invited to “All Cultures One Voice: Honoring Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.” from 9 am to noon on Monday, January 16, at Silver Creek High School, 4901 Nelson Road. Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Longmont residents can safely and securely recycle private documents at this free event. Take boxed or bagged papers to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, January 14. This is for residential documents only; business materials will not be accepted. Please also take ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. Let your little ones have fun while learning basic conversational Spanish in the Library’s new informal and interactive group for children and their parents. No previous Spanish experience is necessary, and the group is ideal for ages 4 to about 8. Free UC Health Windows to Wellness Fair
Help fulfill your 2017 health resolutions by attending Recreation Services’ annual wellness fair, sponsored by UC Health, from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, January 21, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Learn about local providers, visit vendors, attend free workshops, and sign up for 10-minute sessions for $5 or 20-minute sessions for $10 (cash only – please bring small bills) with practitioners and readers. Winter Bike (and Walk!) to Work Day
Winter Bike and Walk to Work Day is January 25, and the City of Longmont will offer four free breakfast stations for participants. Stop by for a free breakfast between 7 and 9 am at Centennial Pool, the St. Vrain Memorial Building, the Recreation Center, and the Development Services Center. Winter “Walkshop”
From 8:30 to 10 am on Saturday, January 21, walk and talk with Walk2Connect Leader Ana Lucaci and Longmont Traffic Safety Coordinator Lauren Greenfield to learn about dressing safely for winter walking, crossing streets, walking for fitness, walking to reach a destination, and more. Meet at Ziggi’s at 1139 Francis Street. Coffee will be provided for participants who join in on the two-mile walk.
