Many City Facilities Closed on Monday
Longmont city government observes the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday on Monday, January 18. The following facilities will be CLOSED: Civic Center, Service Center, Development Services Center, Library, Museum, Senior Center, Youth Center, and Waste Diversion Center. All recreation facilities will be open regular hours. Trash and recycling will be collected one day later than usual during this week. City Council Open Forum
The January 19 city council meeting, beginning at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street, will be an Open Forum for residents to talk for 5 minutes each to council members about any topic on their minds. This is the only agenda item for this meeting; plan to arrive a little early to put your name on the list of speakers. Ride the FLEX Express Bus Service for Free January 18-22
FLEX service between Fort Collins and Boulder begins Monday, January 18, 2016.The community is invited to try the service for free during its first week of service, January 18-22, 2016. FLEX Express Service Highlights:
• Express trips between Boulder, Longmont, Loveland and Fort Collins, with limited stops, allowing a travel time that is comparable to auto drive times.
• $1.25 one-way fare, 60 cents for seniors and disabled, Transfort passes, COLT passes, RTD EcoPasses and RTD CollegePass accepted.
• CSU faculty, staff and students ride free with their RAMCards.
• Free WiFi – work while you commute.
• Weekday service during peak commuting times.
• Transfort technology provides real-time bus arrival information.

Winter Windows to Wellness – Free Admission

Chase away the winter blues and blahs while you perk up your senses at this informative health and wellness fair from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, January 16, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Marketplace vendors will offer a variety of natural products, jewelry, and much more! Sign up for 15-minute sessions with an alternative wellness practitioner/holistic healer for $5 each – please bring small bills. Free Shredding Event on Saturday
Recycle personal documents safely and securely at this free event. Bring boxed or bagged papers to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, January 16. Also bring ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. This event is for residential documents only; business materials will not be accepted. Serve Your City on a Board or Commission

If you would like to participate in the deliberation of topics that are important to the city, consider applying to serve on a volunteer advisory board. Persons shall be eligible to serve who have lived in and been registered voters of the City of Longmont for one year prior to their appointment. For a list of openings and to apply, visit LongmontColorado.gov/board-application or call the City Clerk’s Office at 303-651-8649. The application deadline is 5 pm on Monday, February 1.

Winter Sprinter Swim Meet for Adults
Enjoy a morning of competition and camaraderie at the 2016 Winter Sprinter swim meet for adults on Sunday, January 24, at Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine Street. Swimming distances range from 50 to 500 yards in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley. The cost is $20 (preregistration) or $25 on the day of the event. Public Invited to MLK Celebration
Join your friends and neighbors at the “Honoring Dr. Martin L. King Through Action” free community event on January 18 from 2 to 4 pm at Silver Creek High School, 4901 Nelson Road. Become a Spellbinder and Promote Literacy

The Longmont Library’s chapter of the Spellbinders Storytellers is seeking volunteers for its next training beginning January 25. The Spellbinders promote literacy and reading through dramatic storytelling in classrooms and at events citywide. All adults are welcome and no experience is necessary.
