Is That Message Really From the City?
Residents have reported an online survey promoting “exclusive reward offers” for answering a survey about “Longmont Power.” The survey is not from or endorsed by Longmont Power & Communications. LPC does survey its customers annually and holds a drawing from those surveys for an electric bill credit; this is the only LPC-supported survey that offers a reward. Be cautious – many scams claim a connection with the City, whether through an online message, a supposed employee at the door, or a telephone con artist trying to “collect” utility payments. If you’re ever unsure about any caller, visitor, or message that claims to be from the City, please call the appropriate City department to verify.
New “Magic: The Gathering” Club at the Library
Take heart, role-playing gamers! The Longmont Public Library is celebrating the new year with a new monthly club for 6th through 12th graders focused on Magic: The Gathering. The club will meet at the Library, 409 4th Avenue, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on the second Friday of each month, and monthly registration is required. Register online at bit.ly/LibTeens. No email or internet service? Call 303-651-8477 to register.
Each year, Forestry Services contracts with licensed tree contractors for pruning and removal of City-owned trees as necessary to maintain the health and manage safety of our urban forest. The program began in January and is anticipated to be complete by May 1. This work takes place during the winter months while the trees are dormant. Pruning is performed on a need basis, mostly on large trees in old town Longmont, along stretches of greenway or along primary streets. For general information on Forestry Services, please visit LongmontColorado.gov/forestry. For specific questions about the annual tree pruning and removal program, please call 303-651-8446.
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, January 28, at Twin Peaks Golf Course, 1200 Cornell Drive. At this event, you can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Mayor Coombs and Council Member Santos are scheduled to attend. For more information call the City Clerk’s Office at 303-651-8649.
