Serve Your City on a Board or Commission
If you would like to participate in the deliberation of topics that are important to the city, consider applying to serve on a volunteer advisory board. Persons shall be eligible to serve who have lived in and been registered voters of the City of Longmont for one year prior to their appointment. For a list of openings and to apply, visit LongmontColorado.gov/board-application or call the City Clerk’s Office at 303-651-8649. The application deadline is 5 pm on Monday, February 1.
Winter Bike to Work Week
Celebrate Winter Bike to Work Week in Boulder County January 25-29! Throw on an extra layer and some good lights, and be sure to register before you ride out to one of the breakfast stations in Longmont or throughout the county. Building Better Cities Dialogue Series
Join the City of Longmont at 4 pm on Wednesday, January 27, for the first Building Better Cities Dialogue at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. How can our city grow and maintain its historic fabric? Challenge your assumptions about land use and development with Joe Minicozzi of Urban3 as he discusses long-term property value drivers, suburban sprawl, and the value of mixed-use urban development. Fun with Robotics for Kids on the Spectrum
From 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, January, 31, kids on the autism spectrum and their siblings can enjoy hands-on robotics and get to know the new library robots while parents learn effective techniques from a licensed psychotherapist about how to reduce stress and cultivate resilience. Michael Jackson – at the Library!
From 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, January 28, author and Rolling Stone contributor Steve Knopper will discuss Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop.” Knopper recently published “MJ: The Genius of Michael Jackson,” considered the definitive look at Jackson’s life and legacy, and he will share his research and stories from the book. “I Am an Owl” Program at Sandstone Ranch
No matter your age, you’ll enjoy this program to learn about owls through crafts, storytelling and exploration. “I Am an Owl” is from 10 am to noon on Saturday, February 6, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Learn how to identify tracks left by animals in our area from 10 to 11:30 am on Saturday, January 30, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Weather permitting, you’ll use your newfound knowledge on the tracks around Sandstone Ranch, so dress appropriately for this indoor and outdoor event. All ages are welcome. The Longmont Library’s chapter of the Spellbinders Storytellers is seeking volunteers for its next training beginning January 25. The Spellbinders promote literacy and reading through dramatic storytelling in classrooms and at events citywide. All adults are welcome and no experience is necessary. Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, January 30, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue.
